Track Name: Headstrong
Somebody's gonna get ripped off
Maybe first you then your neighbor revolts
Somebody's gonna get stepped on
As if the boot heel in question was your fault
And I can point me some fingers
And that's fightin' fair and it's true
'Cause everyone among us has some of those
Maybe first me then maybe you

You shine when you talk
You shine when you pray
You shine in your statements
Oh, you shine when you proclaim
But you ain't such a star when the lights really go out
You ain't worth your talk, you're so far far far far out

Just when the months got cold my feet met the road
I got long in the mouth, stopped living loud
Packed my things and headed South
Looks like I got a little headstrong
Put my legs on, got ramblin' on, put another log on the fire

You glow when you make things with your parchment and your pen
You glow in your frustration, crumpled papers in the bin
But why did you let it get the best of you
Let the naysayers have their day?
You put a case around your Honer mouth organ

Just when the months got cold my feet met the road
I got long in the mouth, stopped living loud
Packed my things and headed South
Looks like I got a little headstrong
Put my legs on, got ramblin' on, picked another fight, put another log on the fire
Track Name: You Said...
Close your eyes, babe
Throw your pallet on my floor
Stay inside, don't look for any more
Don't open any doors
Don't invest in any floors
Only plant your feet in me, I'm yours forever more
You said as you headed for the door

I guess have missed the memo, I must have dropped the call
I guess I wanted too much from it all
I must have got my hopes up from you talkin' so damn straight
Too bad your steps, they can't relate

Put your hand in mine, don't blindly grope around
Don't cry nor whimper, don't even make a sound
I was born to rid your pain, start washing down the drain
Enfold in me, my friend
I'm your blanket, I'm your tent
You said. Now look at me now, look at me now, look at me now
I'm a ghost host, free of rent

I guess have missed the memo, I must have dropped the call
I guess I wanted too much from it all
I must have got my hopes up from you talkin' so damn straight
Too bad your steps, they can't relate
Track Name: The Tightrope Walking Man
I saw the tightrope walking man
I watched him lose his feet
I wondered how begotten he
To lock away what once was free
We all tried hard to warn him, of his soon to come ill fate
But I saw the man fall fast because
He locked some good sense away
Track Name: Oopsie Daisy (The Devil Made me Do It)
I met a man who was in hot pursuit of his grave
Like a wreck out in open water
His eyes burned, his lungs were tar
His neck didn't break from the fall
He saw only one star
And it burned like the rope around his neck
Only five or six hundred times hotter

Oopsie Daisy, oooopsie daisy, oooopsie daisy, the Devil made me do it

His eye were adjusting to the bright light
And blood spilled from his every pore
The light burst into black flame
Writing did appear in the sand, a ghostly black game
He was rattled to the core

The game was like hopscotch
Like Russian roulette, and like chess
A promise was made, the terms appeared fine
Ornate little figures moved all on their own
Carved from a young angel's spine
The rules seemed to change with every step

Oopsie Daisy, oooopsie daisy, oooopsie daisy, the Devil made me do it

The man told me he won the devil's duel
And walked home with prize filled hands cupped
He walked away feeling better
He felt the rain that morning instead
Of just feeling wetter
He seemed to be doing fine I'd say, but...
He had to accept the help of a crow who was
Roosting in his hanging tree
He whispered instructions to her soft
She swooped down to play for his soul
Where he would were he not hung aloft
That nice crow is in hell now
I believe......
Track Name: Everybody's Tryin' To Steal Your Whisky
Go on and brood a little longer
I can tell you ain't finished yet
There's gonna be blood, no matter what
You can bet
Gotta have it your own way
Have and also eat your cake
We're lookin' out for you, baby, don't over do it
But that's your way

Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal the razor from your wrist

Your crew have jumped in the water
In your mind they've abandoned the ship
You weren't the captain anyway, what made you wanna stay
And go down with it?
You're gonna rue the current day
Ain't nobody having you on
The line you make is drawn with cocaine
So it won't last long

Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to pump the water from your lungs
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to take away your fun

Don't wanna see you fall any deeper
Whatever gave you that idea?
I see your eyes rolling back
Every time I react to your
Walking sleeper act

Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to pull you back from the dead
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky
Everybody's tryin' to get you out of your head

Everybody's tryin' to steal your whisky....
Track Name: 'Till the Iron Tree Falls
Alone I stand,
A single imp-like figure atop a great, expansive globe
At my polar opposite rusts an old, iron tree
With a tire swing
There are no leaves, there is no breeze
I have always found myself falling head over heels for stars
And there is one that has caught my eye of late
The colors of space shift and spin in the ecstasy

Once it was as any other small lamp of god
Still tenaciously clinging to the heavens
In spite of it's own mortality
But now a bright light, so close, and so obtrusive
To my mortal eyes, I have to look down in aversion
At the base of the light, a pair of bronze feet pose
With the left foot forward
A hand reaches out from beyond the void
And offers me a pair of dark brown eyes
The spies of another potential, invalid lover
For me to dote upon, I shouldn't wonder

But no angel band will I let play me to sleep,
Only to awaken from a sudden rude trumpet blast
No starving eyes will I welcome into my halls
Only to devour me whole
I will stand here 'till the iron tree falls
Track Name: Stale Dreams of Flying Machines
My teacher said
"Hey think on this, and tell me if it makes you frown.
What if the Wright Brother never won and their dreams
Fell to the ground?"
"What do you mean, what if?" Joe said
"The Wright Brothers are alive
And they're still waking on the ground.
Eyes look up towards the sky, but their
Heads are bowed down. I see it all the fucking time."

So don't ask me about possibility of hope turning to dust
Stale dreams of flying machines
Is all that's left of us
Stale dreams of flying machines
Is all that's left of us

Now Joseph was a drummer
And a poet to the core
Aspirations filled his head
But the drink did so much more
Playing back up for an Elvis
Made old Joe mighty jealous
Of the one, of the one, of the one
That he'd been when he was young

So don't ask me about possibility of hope turning to dust
Stale dreams of flying machines
Is all that's left of us
I'll tell you, stale dreams of flying machines
Is all that's left of us
Track Name: The Silver, the Fork, the Mantra
She flashed the light that would seduce me
And eventually steal my eyes
And I accepted her lips through mine
Like communion bread
Or like telling the same joke twice

So I wrote myself this little mantra
When the truth came out
Would you like to listen to it, baby?
It won't take long, and I can sing it for you loud:
Get a grip, it's just another lip
That's been bitten by the devil's mouth

I missed the punch of the line
Had I lost my wit? My mirth?
Oh, the sweat it took to cry
The tongue that told the joke
Was blessed with silver, and
Cursed with a fork
And cod muster only lies

So I wrote myself this little mantra
When the truth came out
Would you like to listen to it, baby?
It won't take long, and I can sing it for you loud:
Get a grip, it's just another lip
That's been bitten by the devil's mouth
Track Name: SPEED
I worked in a Mexican restaurant
I was the darkest guy around
So they offered me some pills to pick me up
They could see in my eyes I was down
Well I cannot curse a man for trying to help
In the only way that he knows how
So I swallowed my inhibitions
So as not to look a gift horse in the mouth
The Speed worked as quick as it's namesake
And before I could blink we were off
I felt kind of like the Road Runner
TNT could not get me to stop

Well, I finally got some sleep the next morning
Drove to work, but I rode shot gun
I was a man now without a body
All I felt were my eyes and my gums
I tried to serve a lady her dinner
But she glared at her meager plate
"That ain't enough!" she complained to say grace over
And when I looked into my mirror I could relate
So, they sent me home extra early
I'd been shaking like a dog
I could function okay on a good day
But I put the fear of god into my boss

All my neighbors and friends tried to help me
My veins burned with double hate
I'd been a page in the land of angels
But I was lord of my own hell and that was great
When the dew of sleep finally lifted
ive months later all my friends had all gone
I guess I took to scalding them for branches
In the days I was blinded by a log
No, I ain't ever been to prison
But my bare hands have withheld bail
If you want something done right
You gotta do it yourself
That's probably why we man our own jail
That's probably why we man our own jail
